Caryn Whisler is a licensed behavioral specialist and a registered mental health clinician living in Florida with her wonderful husband, Michael, and her amazing daughter, Alexis. Her passion for children’s mental health inspired her to earn two master’s degrees (in applied behavioral analysis and clinical mental health) and write stories that children can relate to and learn from. She hopes that this book encourages children to seek assistance when needed and be friends to those in need.
Catherine S. Geiger is an illustrator and therapist. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communication design and a master’s degree in marriage and family counseling. She is a licensed behavioral specialist who works with children on the autism spectrum, and she has a heart for helping neurodivergent adolescents. She teamed up with Caryn to present an opportunity that will enable every child to find their success. Catherine has three adult sons and two beautiful granddaughters. She lives with her special dog, Bradley.
Q: What inspired the idea behind your book?
A: As therapists working in school settings, we have seen children struggle with sitting still and never feeling like they fit in. We wanted to bring a voice to these amazing children and help teach empathy with the creative use of amazingly drawn animals.
Q: As an author, what tips would you give anyone who wants to get into writing?
A: We are new to the world of writing; we can only offer that you should follow your dream and listen to your heart. It is a long process, but it’s worth it in the end.
Q: What is your favorite book?
A: As mothers, our favorite books are children’s books such as Fancy Nancy, the Berenstain Bears series, and Disney’s adaptation of The Odyssey.
Q: Was your main character modeled after anyone in your life?
A: Our main character is a combination of all the children who can’t sit still . . .EVER.
Q: What is your favorite part of the writing process?
A: Working with each other and watching the plot and illustrations come together to tell the story!
Q: Do you believe that being a “good writer” is a developed skill or a natural talent?
A: A little bit of both. It takes an army to help, for sure, and we learned to work together so well.
Q: Do you have a favorite book, poem, TV, or movie quote?
A: “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.” —Henry Ford
Q: Would you write another book (or are you already writing another book)?
A: Yes! We currently have two books done, and we are hoping this becomes a classroom series that helps all children who are struggling in their own way.
Q: Is there an author you look up to, and why?
A: We look up to many authors across all settings. Unique talent is special!
