Meet Nate Moeller, Author of Twinkling Wings and Toothy Things

Nate Moeller lives in Freeland, Michigan, with his amazing wife, Jennifer, and their two beautiful children, Sadie and Sam. The inspiration for his book Twinkling Wings and Toothy Things came from his daughter Sadie losing one of her teeth. Nate, along with his brother Brett, is the co-owner of Moeller Builders, Inc., which specializes in custom home builds and remodels. When he isn’t working, Nate enjoys spending time with his family and enjoying the outdoors.

Q: What inspired the idea behind your book?

A: My daughter, Sadie, wanted her adult teeth to come in faster. I figured that since we build houses, we could build teeth too.

Q: As an author, what tips would you give anyone who wants to get into writing?

A: Don’t stop. Keep pushing through to complete the book. It gets hard at the end to make everything right.

Q: What is your favorite book?

A: One of the most requested books by my kids was Barber Bear. I’d say it’s my favorite because it made me happy to see them smile.

Q: Was your main character modeled after anyone in your life?

A: Sadie and Sam, who are my kids.

Q: What is your favorite part of the writing process?

A: Thinking about the kids believing what is written in a fantasy land and getting lost in the story.

Q: Do you believe that being a “good writer” is a developed skill or a natural talent?

A: I don’t believe I am a good writer or talented in this field. I have a good imagination that allows me to think of ideas from a make-believe world, and I then write them down in a way that I hope makes sense to kids.

Q: Do you have a favorite quote from a book, poem, TV, or movie?

A: “It’s the only one I got.” —Top Gun: Maverick

Q: Would you write another book (or are you already writing another book)?

A: Yes, I would write another book.

Q: Is there an author you look up to, and why?

A: I do not have one specific author I look up to. After going through the publishing process, I have a different kind of respect when I see any book.

Q: If there were an apocalypse and you could only take five books into your doomsday bunker, what would they be?

A: I’m not sure which specific books I’d take, but they would definitely be children’s books.
