I Used to Be Afraid

Publishing September 15th, 2026 | Hardcover and Paperback | 26 pages

“I used to be afraid of the dark . . .” “I remember.”

For children growing up in a confusing and ever-changing world, it is only natural for fears to fester—of tummy aches, storms, bugs. And even other fears they may not be able to name. They rely on the adults in their lives for support and patience as they learn how to overcome these fears and interact curiously with the world around them.

I Used to Be Afraid uses tender and reassuring language to build a conversation between child and mentor as the adult gently guides the little one through their fears. Readers will learn to navigate their worries and, in turn, how to comfort others through their own uncertainties.
