Where Do You Find a Belief? takes place on the peaceful shores and in the winding maritime forests of Bald Head Island, North Carolina.

The story follows Scout, a curious and lovable golden retriever, whose journey begins when her sister, Piper, asks a simple but powerful question: Do you have a belief? Determined to find the answer and a belief of her own, Scout sets off on a ferry-bound adventure.

Along the way, Scout meets a colorful cast of island characters, each with their own unique way of seeing the world-from Captain Bob, the wise and friendly ferry captain, to Jay the bald eagle, Jules the loggerhead sea turtle, DeeDee the bottlenose dolphin, and even Thor the grumpy coyote. With every encounter, Scout learns that beliefs can take many forms, discovering from her friends the importance of living in the moment, embracing adventure, finding comfort in home, and choosing a positive outlook. Where will Scout find her belief?

About the Author

Melissa Gass is a first-time children's book author who is inspired by the curiosity of children and time spent outdoors, especially with her family's golden retrievers by her side. For over twenty years, she and her family have escaped from their busy life in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Bald Head Island, where the natural beauty inspired her book, Where Do You Find a Belief? Swimming and writing have both been passions of hers from a young age, and she finds that in those quiet moments, her best ideas begin to surface. Melissa's belief is that some of life's most gratifying discoveries happen when we slow down, step outside, and let our imaginations wander.
